Approval of the contracting of the school transport service

The modification of the transport decree is already included, which will extend the range of pupils entitled to school transport.

The Consell de Govern today authorised the Councillor for Education and Universities, Antoni Vera, to contract the school transport service for public schools and special education centres supported with public funds in the Balearic Islands for the 2024/25, 2025/26 and 2026/27 school years for a maximum amount of 39,199,525.42 euros (10% VAT included). This service includes, for the first time, Baccalaureate students who will be entitled to free school transport from the next academic year onwards.

In 2021 the different ordinary transport contracts were formalised for the islands of Mallorca, Menorca, Eivissa and Formentera, with an initial duration of two school years, which were extended for an additional school year and will end at the end of the 2023/24 school year.

The projected contract adapts its content to the modification that is being processed in Decree 20/2023 of 22 May that regulates school transport in public schools and special education centres supported with public funds in our community, which aims to expand the range of students entitled to school transport, extending it to all students of Bachillerato, as well as other beneficiaries of this service, and that for reasons of effectiveness and efficiency, the tender is now initiated to cover these new users from the beginning of the academic year 2024/25.
