The Average Period for Payment to Suppliers of Autonomous Communities is 37.89 days

For their part, the payment period of the Central Administration was 26.86 days in the first month of the year, while Local Entities in the cession model have a supplier payment period of 44.27 days in January, which represents an increase of 1.41 compared to the same month of the previous year.

For its part, the PMP recorded in the Social Security Funds was 12.47 days in January 2024.

Central government data
The MTP of the Central Administration stood at 26.86 days in January this year, an increase of 8.77 days compared with December last year.

The ratio of transactions paid stood at 21.73 days, while the ratio of transactions pending payment reached 36.5 days.

Data from the Autonomous Regions
In the Autonomous Regions, the Average Period for Payment to Suppliers stood at 37.89 days in January 2024, which represents an increase of 7.39 days compared to the previous month.

About the composition of the MTP, the ratio of transactions paid stood at 38.92 days and that of transactions pending payment at 36.27 days. This represents an increase of 11.20 days in the ratio of transactions paid and an increase of 1.96 days in the ratio of transactions pending payment, compared with the previous month, respectively.

Trade debt
Commercial debt stands at 4,474.32 million euros, equivalent to 0.29% of national GDP. This represents a decrease of 2,480.35 million euros from the previous month.

Payments of a commercial nature made in January 2024 amounted to 6,969.97 million euros, which represents an increase of 11.95% compared to January 2023. Of these, 4,516.28 million euros correspond to payments of a sanitary nature, which represents an increase of 18.21% about the same period of the previous year.

Data from Local Corporations
In January, local authorities had an average supplier payment period of 44.27 days. Compared with the same month of the previous year, the payment period in Local Corporations increased by 1.41 days. The evolution is shown in the following graph:

Analysing the payment period for the component of invoices pending payment on 31 January, a significant improvement can be seen concerning the same day the previous year, given that this ratio decreased by 9 days.

Concerning the component of invoices paid during January, the average payment period was 27.71 days, which is 7.33 days longer than the figure for the same month of the previous year.

Given that the weight of the number of payments made concerning total obligations is higher than in January 2023, the PMP figure for January 2024 is worse than the figure for the same month of the previous year.

On the other hand, if the MTP for January 2024 were compared with that of the previous month, an increase of 15.38 days would be observed, although this difference loses representativeness as it is a magnitude with seasonality.

The aggregate indicator of the MIP for the set of entities with monthly reporting obligations is calculated using the methodology established for each local corporation individually, i.e. the days are weighted according to the volume of debt, so that the entities with greater indebtedness to suppliers contribute to a greater extent in the composition of the MIP.

There are 157 local entities with an obligation to submit the monthly PMP, all of which have fulfilled this obligation.

The data supplied for the PMP show an asymmetrical distribution between entities. Thus, while 105 entities, representing 66.9% of the total, have a PMP of less than or equal to 30 days, 14 of them have an excessive PMP, given that they exceed 60 days of payment to suppliers.
