Prohens receives RCD Mallorca, runner-up of the Copa del Rey

Prohens receives RCD Mallorca

The president of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Marga Prohens, received RCD Mallorca at the Consolat de Mar this Monday afternoon, along with other authorities of the Islands, on the occasion of their runner-up position in the Copa del Rey (King’s Cup). Hundreds of fans also travelled to the Consolat de Mar to welcome the team and show their support.

Prohens highlighted the team’s effort throughout the match, played last Saturday against Athletic Bilbao, and acknowledged the work carried out by the team, “you are already the history of Mallorcanism, you are the heroes of a whole generation”, she said. He also mentioned the more than twenty thousand Mallorquinistas who travelled to Seville. “Thank you for being exemplary supporters, for your contagious enthusiasm, for your absolute unity, leaving aside any other differences,” he said.

He also had words of thanks for the coach, Javier Aguirre, and for the president of RCD Mallorca, Andy Kohlberg, “for his commitment to football in our islands”.

During the event, the representatives of the institutions presented a gift to RCD Mallorca. Specifically, the president of the Parliament, Gabriel Le Senne, has given a reproduction of the “Perspective plan of the lobby” of the building of the Parliament of the Balearic Islands, by Miquel Madorell. The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, presented a gift of blown glass by Gordiola; the mayor of Palma City Council, Jaime Martínez, a lithograph by Menéndez Rojas “Mendi”, of one of the lionesses of Palma’s Passeig del Born; and the president of the Balearic Islands Football Federation, Pep Sansó, a glass plaque. The delegate of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Alfonso Rodríguez, also presented a gift of recognition, a silkscreen print by the Mallorcan painter Carolina Adán Caro.

In addition, the president has given a gift with motifs of Mallorcan languages, the brand of Mallorcan ceramics ‘Estilo Sant Feliu’. On behalf of RCD Mallorca, the team gave her a plaque and a photograph signed by all the players, showing the president with the team captain, Antonio Raíllo, at the end of the match in La Cartuja.

At the end of the ceremony, the club’s president, Andy Kohlberg, and RCD Mallorca captain, Antonio Raíllo, said a few words of thanks. “That’s sport, the important thing is to go home with the satisfaction of having done everything possible to achieve the objective,” said Kohlberg. The captain thanked the fans, “we feel at home”.
