Second Forum on Tourism Governance and Sustainability in Petra

The councillor for Tourism himself was in charge of closing the forum, and during his speech, he stated that the aim for this term of office is to promote and foster a “responsible tourism model within our environmental and social limits”. To this end, Rodríguez added, it is essential to work on “tourism governance, in which the active participation of the community and the sector in decision-making on tourism is fundamental, as is that of the town councils”.

The day began with an opening speech by Marcial Rodríguez, in which he stressed the importance of being able to take advantage of “Mallorca’s leadership to change the way people see us from the outside, achieving effective social and environmental coexistence within a framework of sustainable development of tourist activity”.
Pedro Mas, for his part, announced shortly afterwards, during his speech, that “collaboration with all the town councils will be active and constant throughout the legislature, in order to gain first-hand knowledge of the development of the activity in each territory and at each moment. We start from the conviction that they are different”, he added.
In addition to these presentations throughout the morning, a round table discussion took place with the participation of the mayors of Algaida and Porreres, the mayors of Ariany, Lloret de Vistalegre, Maria de la Salut, Petra and Vilafranca, the councillor of Tourism and the island director, under the title “Opportunities of the Pla de Mallorca as a tourist destination linked to the primary sector”.
Later, a presentation of the Pla de Mallorca Tourism Sustainability Plan took place, and the day concluded with another round table discussion with the mayors of Montuiri and Llubí, as well as the mayors of Sencelles, Santa Eugenia, Sineu, Sant Joan and Costitx, on the theme “Cycle tourism in the Pla, challenges and opportunities for the sector”.
