The travelling exhibition of night photography Menorca Starlight 2024

Es Mercadal will be the first municipality on the island to host the exhibition of the 40 best images from the second edition of the Menorca Starlight Night Photography Competition, the contest organised by the Menorca Biosphere Reserve Agency of the Island Council and the Ciutadella Artistic Circle Photo Club to disseminate the beauty of the island’s night sky and raise awareness of the importance of preserving it.

The exhibition, which will tour different municipalities in Menorca, opens on the 15th of April at 10 am at the Ca n’Àngel Art and Culture Centre, and can be visited until the 1st of May. The opening ceremony will be attended by the mayor of Es Mercadal, Joan Palliser, the councillor for the culture of the consistory, Nerea Nevada, the president of the Photoclub, Ramon Silvela, and the councillor for the Environment, Biosphere Reserve and Cooperation, Simón Gornés.

Simón Gornés, Minister for the Environment, Biosphere Reserve and Cooperation.

The exhibition will display the photographs of the winners and finalists of the competition in the 5 categories presented, which show the diversity of landscapes that can be enjoyed on the island under the light of the stars. Of particular note are the archaeological elements of Talayotic Menorca, with images of the Naveta des Tudons and various enclosures of Mesa, or the photographs taken in some of the island’s iconic places, such as Sa Nitja or the salt flats of Mongofre. The photographic composition in which people appear, the Menorcan natural environment and the marine landscape, or the island’s villages under the starry sky also have a large presence.
