The Women’s Desk organises a course on access, consumption, production and impact of pornography on adolescents

The Women’s Desk has organised a course on access, consumption, production and impact of pornography in adolescence, which will take place on Monday 15 April at the Casal de Igualtat and is aimed at prevention among young people. This training, which will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., will be given by Luis Ballester and Sandra Sedano, researchers and professors at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB).

The Women’s Desk organises a course on access

Luis Ballester holds a doctorate in sociology and social work, as well as being a professor of research methods at the University of the Balearic Islands, specialising in research into the impact of pornography on children and adolescents. Ballester is co-director of the diagnostics on access, consumption and consequences of pornography in Spain (2018), the Balearic Islands (2022) and Portugal (2023), as well as a member of the research team of the diagnostic study led by the University of Valencia on access, consumption and consequences of pornography in the Valencian Community.

Sandra Sedano is a lecturer at the University of the Balearic Islands in the Department of Applied Pedagogy and Educational Psychology and a researcher, disseminator and head of the equality service of Calvià Town Council. Sedano is also a member of the GEPIB (Grup d’estudis sobre Prostitució dels Illes Balears). Sandra Sedano is also a lecturer in the university expert course on trafficking and prostitution at the UIB.

This course is aimed at young people and adults to analyse the dangers of easy access to pornography at an early age and how this can develop harmful behaviours such as promoting gender stereotypes or encouraging aggressive attitudes in the sexual sphere.
