Blue Flag
This achievement is part of a wider context in which Spain has obtained 18 additional Blue Flags over the previous year, bringing the total to 638 for beaches, 102 for marinas and 7 for tourist boats in 2024, according to data published on Tuesday by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (Adeac).
In terms of regional distribution, the Balearic Islands now have a total of 15 Blue Flags in their port facilities. Of these, five are managed directly by PortsIB, including the ports of Cala Figuera, Colònia de Sant Jordi, Cala Rajada, Ciutadella and Sóller.
Additionally, five ports and yacht clubs operating under concessions granted by PortsIB have also received this recognition; these include CN Sant Antoni, CN Cala Gamba, CN Porto Cristo, CN S’Arenal, and Club de Vela Port d’Andratx. The Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB) contributes another five facilities to this prestigious list, including Marina Ibiza, Alcúdia Mar Puerto Turístico Deportivo, Marina Palma Cuarentena, Marina Port de Mallorca and R.C.N. de Palma de Mallorca. Broken down by islands, Eivissa is home to two of these facilities, Mallorca twelve, and Menorca one.
The Blue Flag, awarded by the European Environmental Education Foundation (EEF) recognises those that demonstrate exceptional commitment in key areas such as water quality, environmental information and education, environmental management, and safety and services available.
