President Galmés and the British Ambassador discuss the start of the tourist season

In this first meeting, the British ambassador expressed his gratitude for the collaboration between the two institutions to manage the day-to-day life and problems of the island’s residents, more than 20,000, and visitors, who number more than 2.5 million a year. The British are the second largest tourist market in Mallorca. In this sense, Hugh Elliott has explained to the president Llorenç Galmés the campaign that the United Kingdom has launched under the slogan “Stay with your mate” aimed at young Britons to reduce the number of accidents and deaths during their holidays.

The Anglo-Saxon country has found that 74% of incidents occur when young people are left alone. The UK diplomats were also interested in the new responsible tourism regulations recently approved in the Balearic Islands and expressed their support for this type of tourism based on coexistence between residents and visitors.

Lastly, Hugh Elliott also informed President Galmés about the campaign to encourage British residents to change their foreign identity card to a new biometric one as a result of the new automated system implemented in the United Kingdom.
