Spain strengthens trade relations with China and boosts the presence of Spanish companies in the Asian country

The Minister of Economy, Trade and Enterprise, Carlos Cuerpo, together with the Chinese Minister of Commerce, Wang Wentao, chaired the 29th Hispano-Chinese Joint Economic and Industrial Commission, which was also attended by the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu.

The Minister of Economy, Trade and Enterprise, Carlos Cuerpo, together with the Chinese Minister of Commerce, Wang Wentao, chaired the 29th Hispano-Chinese Joint Economic and Industrial Commission in Madrid, a bilateral forum to strengthen economic and trade relations between the two countries. The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, who had previously held a bilateral meeting with the Chinese minister.

Spain strengthens trade relations with China

In addition, a meeting was held with a broad representation of Spanish companies from various sectors to highlight their activity and open up new opportunities in the Chinese market.

Spain has highlighted the need to continue to make progress in its relations with China through closer trade and investment.

Both countries have committed to the creation of a permanent Mechanism for Cooperation and Dialogue in trade and investment matters to address opportunities and resolve problems and barriers faced by companies from both countries.

Different areas of collaboration have been identified in sectors such as industrial technology, pharmaceuticals, agri-food and tourism.

The Minister of Economy, Trade and Enterprise, Carlos Cuerpo, conveyed to his counterpart the desire to increase the presence of Spanish companies in the Chinese market, so that China can benefit from the experience and quality services offered by our productive fabric.

For his part, the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, has stressed the same idea, also asking Minister Wentao to facilitate the participation of Spanish companies in the value chain of Chinese companies.

The great growth in bilateral economic and trade relations in recent years has made China a key economic partner for Spain, the main one on the Asian continent. In 2023, China positioned itself as Spain’s second largest supplier in the world (the first outside the EU) and is Spain’s main customer in Asia.
