Spending by international tourists increased by 22.6% in the first four months of the year,

In April, 7.8 million international tourists visited our country, 8.3% more than in April 2023, according to data published by the National Statistics Institute (INE). In addition, Spain once again broke its record for tourist spending in this month. Foreign visitors contributed 9,565 million euros, which represents a growth of 13.1% compared to the figure for April last year. In the accumulated four-month period, spending by international tourists grew by 22.6% to over 31.5 billion euros and the number of visitors increased by 14.5% to over 23.9 million tourists.

For the Minister of Industry and Tourism Jordi Hereu “the results of the first four months of 2024, the best in the historical series since we have official records, speak of a tourism that revolves around quality as a differentiating aspect, with spending at destination that continues to increase and that symbolizes the permanent idyll of international tourists with a range of innovative offers and that aspire to realize values such as sustainability and digitization”.

In detail, April’s tourism expenditure data also offer remarkable results. The statistics on average spending per traveler and average daily spending which, together with the average stay, are three essential concepts for measuring the effectiveness of the ministry’s tourism strategy, have once again improved for another month. Each tourist spent an average of 1,221 euros in April, 4.4% more than last year, and spending per day also reflects this growth, reaching 183 euros, an increase of 5.4% year-on-year. The majority length of stay among tourists was four to seven nights, with almost 4 million and an annual increase of 6.7%.
