Equality condemns a new gender violence murder

The Ministry of Equality condemns a new gender violence murder in the province of Barcelona. It concerns a 32-year-old woman who was allegedly murdered by her partner on 3 June 2024. The victim had no daughters or minor children. There were no previous complaints of gender violence against the alleged aggressor.

With the confirmation of this case, the number of women killed by gender violence in Spain rises to 12 in 2024 and to 1,256 since 2003, when these data began to be collected.

The Minister for Equality, Ana Redondo García, and the Government Delegate against Gender Violence, Carmen Martínez Perza, once again wish to express their absolute condemnation and rejection of this sexist murder and convey their full support to the victim’s family and friends. Both the minister and the delegate urge institutions, administrations and society as a whole to join forces to prevent more deaths.

The Ministry of Equality, through the Government Delegation against Gender Violence, reminds that the 016 telephone number, online consultations via email 016-online@igualdad.gob.es, the WhatsApp channel on the number 600 000 016 and the online chat, accessible from the website violenciagenero.igualdad.gob.es, operate 24 hours a day, every day of the week. At 016 you can ask for advice on available resources and the rights of victims of all forms of violence against women, as well as legal advice from 8am to 10pm every day of the week, with attention in 53 languages and a service adapted to possible situations of disability.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Equality also reminds that in an emergency situation you can call 112 or the emergency numbers of the National Police (091) and the Civil Guard (062). In the event that it is not possible to make a call and in a dangerous situation, the ALERTCOPS application can be used, from which an alert signal will be sent to the police with geolocation.

These means of assistance can be activated by the victim and also by anyone who knows or suspects a case of gender violence. It is the duty of society as a whole.
