The new IBESTAT website

After the welcome and presentation by the Director of IBESTAT, Bàrbara Barceló Riera, the head of the Statistical Production and Dissemination Service of IBESTAT, Sara Fernández Vázquez, explained the main new features of the new website. Afterwards, the consultant from Arte Consultoras Tecnológicos, SL, Rita Díaz Aldán, gave a presentation on the reuse of open data, and the Deputy Director of Statistical Modernisation of the Canary Islands Statistics Institute (ISTAC), Alberto González Yanes, spoke about semantic interoperability, the challenges and opportunities it poses.

After the questions and reflections, the Director General of Economics and Statistics of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Catalina Barceló Horrach, closed the conference. ‘In the era of data and its governance’, Barceló pointed out, ‘this Government is aware of the strategic power of information to improve the productivity and effectiveness of the public policies implemented’.

The new IBESTAT web portal has been up and running since last May. It offers the specific section ‘Open Data’, where the different possibilities for reusing data of interest to users of regional statistics can be consulted, such as, for example, the creation of widgets or the Catalogue of open APIs.

Another important new feature is that, for the first time, semantic interoperability is addressed by publishing the Bank of semantic assets, which allows the consultation and reuse of standard concepts and classifications.

Previously available services have been improved on this new website, such as the User Services, which allows access to additional personalised services for each user, and the Data by territory, which filters and allows the information available by island, municipality or region to be viewed quickly. Likewise, consolidated products are maintained, such as the Unified Statistical Portal (PIE), which allows access to all the statistics that, in addition to IBESTAT, are generated by the ministries of the Government and the island councils, and the viewer of the Agenda 2030 sustainable development indicators.
