The Consell de Mallorca modifies the access lanes to via de Cintura from the Andratx motorway to improve traffic flow

The actions, which will be carried out on Sunday night, consist of leaving only one lane to go to the Paseo Marítimo and two to enter the Vía de Cintura.

The Consell de Mallorca is promoting initiatives to reduce traffic jams on the Andratx motorway (Ma-1), and one of the points of greatest accumulation is the access to Via de Cintura, which currently has only one lane, while there are two lanes to get to Palma’s Paseo Marítimo. Now, the Consell de Mallorca’s infrastructure technicians propose reversing the branches and assigning two lanes to access the ring road and only one for the Paseo Marítimo, which carries much less traffic.

In this way, the technical studies consider that it will be possible to reduce the accumulation of vehicles that at peak hours are concentrated on the access road to the Génova tunnel to link up with Via de Cintura. The measure will consist of changing the horizontal signposting of some 300 metres so that two lanes will be opened up towards the ring road. These days the horizontal signs have been placed to inform drivers that they can use both lanes to leave the Andratx motorway and only one to head towards the Paseo Marítimo.

The work to install the road markings will be carried out from Sunday night to Monday morning and is expected to be in operation on Monday.

Technical studies indicate that, at peak hours, between 60% and 85% of vehicles on the Andratx motorway (Ma-1) head towards Via de Cintura and only between 15% and 17% go to Paseo Marítimo. For all these reasons, this measure is justified by giving priority and two lanes to the destination with the highest traffic accumulation.
