World Food Programme in Burkina Faso

The Consell de Govern has authorised the Councillor for Families and Social Affairs to award a grant to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). This aid amounts to 120,000 € and will enable the first phase of the project “Strengthening vulnerable communities affected by the effects of climate change, food insecurity and malnutrition in Burkina Faso” to be carried out in 2024.

This project is a continuation of the 2022-2023 action and aims to strengthen the resilience to shocks of smallholder farmers and communities in the north and northeast of Burkina Faso while improving access to resources and productive activities. It aims to empower rural communities to carry out activities in natural resource management, land restoration, malnutrition prevention and value chain development, thus improving their resilience. The aim is to enable IDPs and local people to cope with environmental crises and internal conflicts while improving their food security.

The aid approved by the Consell de Govern is part of a request from the UN WFP for a direct grant of €240,000 to carry out this project during the years 2024 and 2025.
