The IBAVI and Sencelles Town Council signed the agreement for the future development of 12 public housing units

The Councillor for Housing, Territory and Mobility of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Marta Vidal, and the Mayor of Sencelles, Joan Carles Verd, signed a collaboration agreement this Thursday between the Balearic Housing Institute (IBAVI) and the Town Council for the transfer of municipal land for the construction by the IBAVI of a new development of 12 subsidised housing units, the first in the municipality to be rented out.

Using this agreement, the IBAVI receives the transfer from the Town Hall of a plot of urban land with a surface area of 676.15 m², located in Calle Molins, to use this land for the development and construction of subsidised housing to be rented out at a later date. The construction of 12 subsidised housing units is planned.

As agreed with the Town Hall in the agreement, the homes in this new IBAVI development will be preferentially destined for young people under 35 years of age who are residents in the municipality of Sencelles and have been on the municipal register for more than 10 years. This is the first IBAVI development in the municipality of Sencelles after more than 30 years and this will be the first one to be rented.

Once the agreement has been signed, the IBAVI will commission the architectural project, after which the municipal building permit will be processed, which will allow the next phases of tendering and awarding of the works to be carried out. The works are expected to begin in 2025.

Councillor Marta Vidal highlighted the “good collaboration and commitment” of the Government and the Sencelles Town Council to promote this new public housing development for rent, the first in this municipality, as well as “the drive on the part of the Government with the collaboration of the town councils to increase the supply of housing at affordable prices for residents”, through the IBAVI and the other measures and programmes underway, such as the Emergency Decree-Law, approved as a law by the Parliament, or the programme Construir para alquilar (Build to Rent), for the transfer of public land to private initiative for the construction of subsidised housing or public housing.

For his part, the mayor of Sencelles, Joan Carles Verd, said: “In Sencelles we are very happy, especially for the young people of Sencelles who will have the opportunity to stay in their village. Although the processes are long, this step shows that with good collaboration between administrations, regardless of their political colours, actions can be taken to provide solutions to the great challenges that
