The insular institution has incorporated prizes in Spanish in this new edition
Literary creators can now submit their works for the Consell de Mallorca’s Mallorca Awards for Literary Creation 2024. The deadline for participation is now open and will be available until the 1st of August. The vice-president of the Consell de Mallorca and councillor of Culture and Heritage, Antònia Roca, explained that this year’s awards have many new features: “For the first time, there will be awards in Spanish, so that all literary creators on our island can participate, with no exceptions”. Mallorca Awards for Literary Creation 2024
Roca explained that there are a total of two calls for entries in this edition: the literary creation prizes in Catalan, worth 79,000 euros, and the literary creation prizes in Spanish, worth 34,000 euros. In this way, the works in Spanish will not compete with those presented in Catalan but will be two different calls for entries: “The aim was that these new features should not be to the detriment of the Catalan language, and so the traditional prizes will continue with the same budget allocation and the same purpose,” explained Antònia Roca.
There are five categories in the Catalan-language competition: narrative (25,000 euros); essay (19,000 euros); poetry (15,000 euros); plays (10,000 euros) and illustrated children’s literature (10,000 euros). As for the Spanish language prizes, there are two categories: essay (19,000 euros) and poetry (15,000 euros). Gradually, said the vice-president and councillor Antònia Roca, more categories will be added to these prizes in Spanish.
The criteria that will be taken into account when judging the works will be the rigour of the texts, the solidity of the constructions, the innovative nature of the works and the coherence of the result.
Mallorca Prize for Contemporary Photography 2024
The call for entries for the Mallorca Contemporary Photography Awards 2024 is now open. The awards aim to stimulate artistic creation in this discipline. This year’s edition also comes with new features, explained the vice-president of the Consell de Mallorca and councillor of Culture and Heritage.
In addition to the first prize, which will be endowed with 8,000 euros in cash and the production of an exhibition and a book, a second prize has also been created under the name of Mallorca Talent Illenc Photography Prize 2024. This second prize is destined to those born in Majorca, or residents in the island for more than two years, and is endowed with 4.000 euros in cash and the production of three works of the project to some of the exhibitions that will carry out the Department.
In recent years, explained Antònia Roca, the Mallorca Contemporary Photography Awards have become highly internationalised and, in this way, Mallorcan talent will also be recognised.
