The Board of Mayors of the Serra de Tramuntana supports the Consell de Mallorca’s bid

The president of the Consell, Llorenç Galmés, explained to the municipal representatives the main challenges facing the Consortium, which include revising the management plan, which dates back to 2010; approving a new text and initiating the processing of the future Serra Law; and updating the Indicator System.

To face these challenges, and given the new socio-economic and tourist reality, the Consell de Mallorca adheres to the ICOMOS International Charter on cultural heritage tourism. ICOMOS is a non-governmental organisation attached to Unesco, which in 2022 approved a declaration to strengthen the protection of cultural heritage through responsible and sustainable tourism management. As the president explained, “the Consortium will take into account all the principles and objectives of this Charter in the revision of the management plan; in this way we will introduce climate action and visitor management policies based on monitoring and capacity and we will include the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations”.

The Board of Mayors applauded this new approach of the Consell de Mallorca, which seeks a well-planned and responsibly managed cultural heritage tourism to ensure its protection and sustainable development.

To close the events celebrating the thirteenth anniversary of the Serra de Tramuntana’s declaration as a World Heritage Site, a concert by the Asturian musician Hevia will be held tonight in Lluc.
