In addition to the president, the signing ceremony was attended by a delegation from the Hermanitas de los Pobres, the councillor for the Presidency, Toni Fuster, and the councillor for Social Welfare, Guillermo Sánchez. The purchase was formalised for 11 million euros and with the commitment of the Council that the building will continue to be used for the care of the most vulnerable groups.

In this sense, by agreement of the Executive Council, the building is assigned to the Majorcan Institute of Social Affairs for its management. The Councillor for Social Welfare of the Council of Mallorca and President of IMAS, Guillermo Sánchez, expressed his “satisfaction at having this new resource that will contribute to guaranteeing dignified and quality ageing. We take the testimony of 140 years of care for the elderly with great enthusiasm and desire to work for the people who live there” and added that “its proximity to the centre of Palma will facilitate the integration of users in the community environment and thus encourage them to actively envy”.

The 50 places available in this residential centre will be added to the network of six public residences that the island institution already has in operation: the residences of La Bonanova, Hogar de Ancianos and Olm-Sant Miquel in Palma; Huialfás in Sa Pobla; Bartomeu Quetglas in Felanitx and Son Caulelles in Pòrtol, totalling close to a thousand public places for dependent elderly people.

The residence for the elderly of the Hermanitas de los Pobres is located on a plot of 14,707 m² in Calle General Riera, with a constructed area of 9,619 m², comprising a main building and two smaller ones, each with five floors. In addition, the property has large garden areas and a vegetable garden exclusively for the elderly people who live there.
