The Social Security registered 2,801,255 foreign affiliates in June, 13.2% of the total number of workers

In the last month, there were 10,992 more employed people from other countries. The daily register remained above 2.9 million foreign affiliates between 14 and 20 June.

The Social Security registered 2,801,255 foreign affiliates in June, after discounting seasonality and the calendar effect, after adding 10,992 employed persons. This is the highest figure for employment amongst foreign workers, a record that is also recorded in the original series.

Since December 2019, before the impact of the pandemic, the system has recorded an increase of 638,856 workers from other countries.

This figure represented 13.2% of the total number of Social Security affiliates in June in seasonally adjusted terms.

In average terms and without seasonal adjustment, i.e. in the original series, Social Security registered 2,899,003 affiliates from other countries, the highest figure in the series after adding 16,036 affiliates in June compared with the previous month.

The daily register of foreign affiliates remained above 2.9 million between 14 and 20 June, and for the rest of the month, above 2.8 million.

Average enrolment
Average enrolment increased by 16,036 in June (0.56%) and by 200,399 in the last twelve months (7.4%), reaching an all-time high. Thus, the percentage of foreign workers out of the total number of persons affiliated to the Social Security system stands at 13.6% in the original series.

Thirty-two per cent are workers from European Union countries. Of all the nationalities, Romania is the country with the highest number of workers, followed by Morocco, Colombia, Italy, Venezuela and China.

In the last 12 months, six sectors of activity grew by more than 10%: Administrative Activities (11.3%), Health Care Activities (11.2%), Artistic Activities (10.3%) and Financial Activities (10.3%). Other sectors such as Hotels and Restaurants (10.3%), Transport (10%), Energy Supply (9.6%) and Trade (9.4%) also grew particularly strongly.

High value-added activities
This year-on-year growth is also very notable in high value-added activities where notable growth is observed in sectors such as Information and Telecommunications, which increased by 8% and Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities, with an increase in the last year of 6.7%.

By activity, workers from other countries account for more than 20% of the total number of affiliates in sectors such as: Activities of Extra-territorial Organisations and Bodies (28.9%), Hotels and Catering (28.4%), Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry and Fishing (25.2%), and Construction (20.9%). In the Special Household System, 45% are foreign workers, and in the Special Agricultural System, 36.2%.

The Self-Employed Scheme accounted for 455,778 contributors of other nationalities, i.e. 13.5% of the total number of self-employed workers. In the last year, foreign affiliates in this scheme have increased by 7.3%.

Of the total number of affiliated workers from other countries, nearly 1.6 million are men and the number of foreign women is close to 1.3 million, having grown by 38.6% since before the pandemic, 4 points more than men.

More than 70,000 Ukrainian members
Among other nationalities, there are 71,642 members from Ukraine, 24,383 more than in January 2022, when the war had not yet started, representing a growth of 51.6%.

Most of the workers from Ukraine, about 85%, are in the General Regime (salaried workers) and 15.2% are self-employed workers.

Regimes and sectors
Overall, 84.1% of foreign affiliates were in the General Regime, with 2,437,229 workers, which is 0.5% higher than in May 2024. The proportion is similar to that of all workers, around 84% are also included in this General Regime.
