The Consell de Mallorca creates the post of coordinator of the Area of Emergencies of the Bombers de Mallorca

This new post will be the head of the Bombers de Mallorca. The functions of the coordinator will be to develop and organise the objectives and needs of the Bombers de Mallorca Service, to elaborate the protocols of action of the service, to establish plans of action and coordination with other emergency services, as well as to advise and inform the councillor of Finance and Public Function and the insular director of Emergencies of all the subjects related to the service.

During this legislature, the Consell de Mallorca has strengthened its commitment to the Bombers de Mallorca, with the renovation and improvement of the emergency service’s infrastructures, vehicles and equipment.

The insular institution is already working on a general fire brigade infrastructure plan to modernise the facilities of the existing fire stations and to provide them with the necessary resources, both in terms of vehicles and equipment. The complete refurbishment of the Manacor fire station is in its final phase, the project for the new Santanyí fire station has already been approved and the service will be regrouped in the future headquarters in Marratxí.

On the one hand, the Bombers de Mallorca have modernised their fleet with two new vehicles, two light urban pumps (highly versatile units designed to intervene in urban fires and traffic accident rescues) that are more efficient and technological, complementing the firefighters’ current fleet and providing them with better tools to deal with any emergency.

On the other hand, the island’s Emergency Department has completely renewed the protective uniforms used by the Bombers de Mallorca during firefighting operations in confined spaces. This equipment is designed with multiple layers that provide the complete protection required by firefighters in structural fire situations.

In addition, the Bombers de Mallorca have made a firm commitment to continuous training and specialisation of the corps. In 2023 they reached a record number of training activities, with 156 exercises in one year. Almost 200 members of the corps have received this training, involving more than 900 hours.

The Bombers de Mallorca have eight fire stations throughout the island (Alcúdia, Artà, Calvià, Felanitx, Inca, Llucmajor, Manacor and Sóller) as well as a headquarters. They have a staff of 293 people and provide service to all the municipalities of Mallorca, except Palma.
