Unemployment falls more among women in absolute terms and is at its lowest level since October 2008.

The total number of unemployed persons registered in the offices of the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) at the end of July fell by 10,830 persons (-0.42%) compared with the previous month.

In interannual terms, unemployment fell by 127,637 persons (-4.77%).

Unemployment falls by 10,830 persons in July

Registered unemployment stood at 2,550,237 people, bringing the number of unemployed close to the 2.5 million mark for the sixth consecutive month.

Unemployment by sector
Unemployment fell or remained practically unchanged in all sectors with respect to June.

In Services it fell by 6,591 persons (-0.36%), in Agriculture by 1,534 persons (-1.68%), in Industry by 289 persons (-0.14%) and there were 508 more unemployed persons in Construction (0.26%). The group Without Previous Employment decreased by 2,924 persons (-1.22%).

Female unemployment stands at 1,539,745, falling by 6,459 women (-0.42%) with respect to the month of June. The total is at its lowest level since October 2008.

Male unemployment falls to a total of 1,010,492 men, down by 4,371 (-0.43%) from the previous month.

If we compare these data with July 2023, male unemployment falls by 48,898 (-4.62%) and female unemployment falls by 78,739 (-4.86%).

Unemployment among young people under 25 years of age fell in July by 210 persons (-0.12%) with respect to the previous month.

Youth unemployment has been falling for 39 consecutive months in interannual terms and marks a historic low with a total of 174,926 young people unemployed.

Unemployment by Autonomous Community
Unemployment in July 2024 fell in seven Autonomous Communities. The largest falls in absolute figures were in Andalusia (-15,965 persons), the Canary Islands (-972 persons) and the Principality of Asturias (-963 persons).

Contracts
The total number of contracts registered during the month of July was 1,521,516. This represents an increase of 90,133 (6.30%) over the same month of the year 2023.

There were 589,007 permanent employment contracts registered, representing 38.71% of all new contracts.

Unemployment benefits in June
The total number of beneficiaries at the end of June was 1,699,873.

The coverage of the unemployment protection system during the month of June 2024 was 70.94%.

The average monthly investment per beneficiary, not including the agricultural subsidy in Andalusia and Extremadura, in the month of June 2024 was 1,049.6 euros, which represents an increase of 28.4 euros (2.8%) over the same month of the previous year.

The total amount invested in benefits in June was 1,747 million euros.
