15 establishments from Binissalem join the Emblemàtics Balears catalogue of the Regional Ministry of Enterprise, Employment and Energy

The municipality of Binissalem has decided to join Emblemàtics Balears, the project of the Regional Ministry of Enterprise, Employment and Energy that protects local commercial activity through the establishments with the longest tradition. Binissalem joins the catalogue with 15 new shops:

Bodega Biniagual (rooted with heritage): a winery.
Bodegas José L. Ferrer (rooted in history): winery.
Bodegues Oliver (emblematic): winery.
Can Xiscos (rooted with history): food and beverages.
Carnisseria Can Puig (rooted in history): butcher’s shop.
Carnisseria Can na Gori (emblematic): butcher’s shop.
Celler Tianna Negre (deep-rooted): the wine cellar.
Forn Cas Soper (rooted in history): bakery and pastry shop.

One of the objectives of Emblemàtics Balears is to raise awareness of the uniqueness of each municipality through its emblematic establishments. Although the initiative focuses on listed shops, the rest of the commercial fabric benefits, as the emblematic establishments also act as a driving force and attraction for visitors from inside and outside the Islands.

It is the town councils who identify the shops in the municipality that meet the requirements to be emblematic, by an ADR Balears manual that establishes the different categories. Thus, a shop can be classified as rooted (with a singular product or trade), with history (with more than 75 years of life or exceptionally after 50 years) and with heritage (with outstanding interior and exterior heritage elements, as well as with intangible value). In addition, establishments that meet these three categories will be called symbolic.

The platform through which the project is publicised is the website www.emblematicsbalears.es, which is growing as more municipalities join the project.

There are currently 31 municipalities throughout the Balearic Islands, with 361 shops listed.

The municipalities that already have listed establishments are: Alaró (4), Alcúdia (7), Algaida (5), Artà (7), Binissalem (15), Campos (16), Consell (6), Esporles (5), Felanitx (12), Inca (14), Lloseta (7), Llucmajor (10), Manacor (25), Marratxí (12), Palma (72), Pollença (8), Porreres (8), Santa Maria del Camí (15), Santanyí (7), Sa Pobla (7), Selva (1), Sineu (8), Alaior (5), Ciutadella (14), Es Mercadal (1), Ferreries (11), Maó (30), Santa Eulària des Riu (5), Sant Josep de Sa Talaia (5), Vila (11) and Formentera (8).
