The Social Security reached 654,357 registrations, which implies an increase of 19,000 people in July 2023.

Unemployment falls by -6.1% compared to a year ago and stands at 27,399 people.

46,264 new contracts have been registered, 2,564 more than a year ago (+5.9%).

The self-employed regime in the Balearic Islands had 105,203 affiliations in July, a figure that represents 16.1% of the total employment registered.

The Balearic Islands consolidate their trend towards job creation and lead the lowest administrative unemployment rate at the national level

The Balearic Islands continue to generate employment and lead the country in terms of the lowest rate of administrative unemployment. Thus, in July the number of people registered with Social Security in the Balearic Islands was 654,357, which implies an increase of 19,000 people compared to 2023, an increase of 3%. Meanwhile, the whole of Spain shows an increase of 2.4% for this period.

A comparison of the June data with those of the previous month shows an increase in enrolment of 2% (12,722 persons) in the Balearic Islands; in contrast, enrolment in Spain as a whole fell concerning the previous month. A total of nine territories, including the Balearic Islands, show increases in enrolment, while eight show decreases.

Unemployment

In terms of unemployment, the Balearic Islands registered 27,399 unemployed in July, representing a decrease of 1,779 people (-6.1 %) compared to July 2023. By islands, unemployment fell above all in Menorca (-10.2 %) and Formentera (-10.2 %), followed by Ibiza (-5.9 %) and Mallorca (-5.8 %). In Spain as a whole, unemployment showed a year-on-year decrease of -4.8 %.

By group, year-on-year unemployment fell among women (-7.6 %), the over-25s (-7.3 %) and Spaniards (-7.2 %). And it rises among those under 25 (+7.1 %) and non-EU foreigners (+0.4 %). It fell in all sectors, and significantly in industry (-9.9 %), hotels and catering (-9.7 %) and agriculture (-8.7 %); on the other hand, it rose among those with no previous employment (+3.6 %).

Concerning the duration of demand, a decrease in unemployment is observed mainly among people with a length of demand between 10 and 12 months (-10.2 %). Long-term unemployment (persons registered for more than 12 months) fell by -8.4 %.

From a month-on-month perspective, unemployment rose in June by 1,030 persons (+3.9 %). This increase is mainly in Ibiza (+5.3 %), followed by Mallorca (+3.9 %) and Menorca (+3.2 %). On the other hand, it fell in Formentera (-2.5 %).
