The Regional Ministry of Education and Universities will draw up the preliminary project for the extension of Porreres Secondary School this year

The Conselleria d’Educació I Universitats is committed to begin this year the drafting of the preliminary project of the extension works of the IES Porreres to subsequently draft the project and finally put the works out to tender.

The extension of Porreres Secondary School is one of the actions included in the proposal of the new Infrastructure Plan that the Balearic Islands Government presented on 1 August. It should be remembered that a period has now opened so that the educational community, town councils and all political parties with parliamentary representation can present any allegations they deem appropriate to the document. The Conselleria d’Educació I Universitats aim to reach a consensus on the Infrastructure Plan, which includes works to be carried out in 10 years and contemplates the construction of 77 new centres and the renovation or extension of 218 educational centres. These actions represent an investment of some 600 million euros.

As for the IES Porreres, the Conselleria d’Educació i Universitats recalls that the needs of the centre have already been requested and that the vocational training offer to be taught is still pending finalised to begin the drafting of the preliminary project for the work. These procedures will be carried out during the year 2024.

On their tour of all the public schools in the Balearic Islands, the regional minister of Education and Universities, Antoni Vera, and the regional secretary for Educational Development, Mateu Suñer, checked the state of the IES Porreres and, accompanied by the municipal representatives of the Porreres town council, visited the site that the town council has to cede to be able to build the extension. The two administrations reached an agreement that is now materialising.
