Palma de Mallorca welcomes Olympic medallist Juana Camilión

The ceremony took place this afternoon in the Plenary Hall of Cort and was attended by the regional secretary of Culture and Sport, Pedro Vidal; the councillor of Territory, Mobility and Infrastructures of the Consell de Mallorca.

Fernando Rubio; the president of the FBIB Juanjo Talens, and the president of the CB Badia Sant Agustí, Guillem Boscana, as well as the deputy mayors Lourdes Roca and Llorenç Bauzá; the councillor of the PSIB-PSOE municipal group, Daniel Oliveira, and the councillors of the VOX municipal group, Jero Mayans and Sara Cerdó.

Martínez Llabrés has stated that the medal obtained by Camilión “is a just reward for a brilliant career that began in Club Bàsquet Molinar, to continue later in Bahía San Agustín and from there in other clubs that have seen her grow as a person and as a sportswoman, achieving important successes to which she has now won an Olympic silver medal”.

In this sense, the councillor added that “it is only fair to recognise the effort and enormous talent of women who have taken the name of our country to the highest level, achieving historic success. And as part of this team, we are proud of a Palma native who is a true example of effort, dedication and perseverance”.

The Mayor of the City Council pointed out that “we wanted to pay tribute to you for this great achievement, but also for all that it represents and the work that lies behind this great result. No doubt achieving success and the goals that one sets oneself requires talent, but also a lot of effort, perseverance, sacrifice, renunciation on many occasions, teamwork, and that is where the greatness of an athlete is demonstrated”.
