Thus, on Monday 19 August, at 17.00h we will be able to attend in Binissalem, the Inauguration in Can Gelabert, of the III Commemoration of the World Day of Photography by Unesco. The exhibition can be visited from the 19th to the 26th of August 2024, in Can Gelabert in Binissalem.

Mateu Abdón comments: ‘The III Commemoration of the World Day of Photography by Unesco is dedicated this year 2024 to photographs taken by amateur and beginner photographers. The central theme is the participation of Binissalem, as the representative of the municipalities of the Balearic Islands, in the National Grand Prix Competition, Fil-loxera de l’Infern, together with the Elements Exhibition. In this way, Binissalem pays tribute to its people and its environment.

This commemoration is accompanied by the Elements Exhibition, in which the four elements are represented.
Empedocles imagined a complex physical model: the perceptible world was explained by the combination of the four material elements: Earth, Water, Air and Fire.

The four elements of nature, Earth, Water, Air and Fire, were, for many ancient doctrines, the basic constituents of matter and explained the behaviour of the physical world.

The authors are intimately linked to the elements. Let’s get to know the members of the Elements Exhibition first-hand.

He will represent the element Water. Different traditional Mallorcan costumes from the 19th century. The Mediterranean Sea is an intercontinental sea, that is, it is located between Europe, Asia and Africa. Its waters bathe the coasts of 21 countries, 69 rivers flow into this sea and it has several important ports of great activity.

WATER
This large body of water is an important climate modifier, as it retains heat. There is a type of climate that has its name: the Mediterranean climate. This climate can be found, in addition to the entire Mediterranean basin, between 30º and 45º latitude of the Equator, parts of the extreme south of Africa, the west of Australia, Chile, California and Oregon.

The peasant costume is an important part of the history and culture of Mallorca. Called ‘vestit de pagès’ or ‘vestit a l’ample’, the one that has survived until the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century is the result of a continuous evolution in the Mallorcan way of dressing, but already very reduced in terms of diversity of pieces, fabrics, footwear, jewellery.

PREVIOUS YEAR 2023

The slogan is ‘Meeting Point’ between culture, tradition and modernity, with the theme being freely chosen.

There will be an interactive exhibition in each of the establishments in Binissalem participating in this commemoration. The idea is to bring art closer to everyone. Thus, the creations of different authors will be displayed in their decoration. They will feature snapshots that reflect different cultures and traditions.

Professional and amateur authors and local, national, and international photographers will join hands in this exhibition.

The participation of ‘Lente Artístico,La Habana,Cuba’ members will be highlighted. At regional level we highlight the participation of David Gonzálvez from Binissalem who was awarded the prize for ‘Best Wedding Photographer in Spain’.
