The Consell de Mallorca signs an agreement with Ses Salines to implement a sports tourism project for 1.8 million euros

This initiative is part of the global project Mallorca Living Sustainable Hub III of the 2023 PSTD call for proposals. It consists of 4 actions, with a total awarded amount of 8.49 million euros, to be carried out with local entities. The Consell de Mallorca coordinates it through the island’s Directorate of Tourism for Governance and Sustainability, headed by Pedro Mas.
The main action will be carried out at the existing Ses Ramones sports complex in the Mallorcan municipality of Ses Salines, specifically in Colònia de Sant Jordi. The project aims to boost these facilities in response to the great demand for sports tourism in the area, as well as the ability to deseasonalise this segment.

Following the criteria of sustainability and adaptation of the existing facilities, the actions will be carried out within the municipally-owned sports complex to consolidate the reconversion of tourist areas to a better use of the territory and the adaptation of new tourist profiles.
Specifically, the necessary infrastructures will be created for the installation of a gymnasium and paddle tennis courts with innovative facilities and sustainable construction elements, the parking area will be rehabilitated with the installation of photovoltaic pergolas to obtain green energy capable of responding to the demand of the facilities and the stands of the athletics track will be adapted both in terms of accessibility and for the installation of photovoltaic elements for the energy supply of the facilities.
The action is aimed at adapting the existing facilities to innovative ones, built with criteria of sustainability and energy efficiency, and which will become a reference point for sports tourism on the island of Mallorca.

Island director Pedro Mas was very pleased with the signing of the agreement and said that ‘since the beginning of the legislature we have set out to value everything that the municipalities of Mallorca do and our goal is to help them because by listening and knowing the needs of the municipalities we can move forward in achieving common tourism objectives’.
