Spain co-sponsors the WHO resolution on rare diseases to improve their diagnosis, treatment and care

The Minister expressed her commitment to promoting this initiative, which is crucial to addressing the challenges faced by more than 300 million people worldwide.

Through collaborative and multidisciplinary efforts, the aim is to improve access to diagnosis and treatment, integrate rare diseases into the global health agenda and ensure equitable medical care for all people in need.

In this way, Spain is the only European country so far to co-sponsor this resolution, called ‘A Priority for Equity and Inclusion in Global Health’, which seeks to prioritise these pathologies on the global health agenda.

A process in which both the Government and the Spanish patient community are involved, which has been part of this meeting through David Sanchez, member of the Board of Directors and International Action Committee of the Spanish Federation for Rare Diseases (FEDER), as well as of the RDI Policy Committee.

The international patient movement, represented by RDI, is calling for a resolution on rare diseases to promote greater investment and commitment to sharing resources and expertise between States.

This resolution has been initiated by the Arab Republic of Egypt and has so far been joined by the State of Qatar, Spain and Malaysia.
