The plenary session of the Consell Insular de Menorca approves the request to the State to declare Alaior and Es Mercadal as an area seriously affected by a Civil Protection emergency

The plenary session of the Consell Insular de Menorca has unanimously decided to request the Government of Spain to declare the municipalities of Alaior and Es Mercadal as an area seriously affected by a Civil Protection emergency due to the material damage caused by the episode of adverse meteorology derived from the DANA, with rain and storms, which occurred on 15th August 2024.

The decision was taken in an extraordinary plenary session held this Friday with a single point on the agenda, centred on the DANA and proposed by the government team.

The Plenary of the Consell Insular de Menorca has agreed to request the Council of Ministers that the declaration includes all the aid and economic measures provided for in both Law 17/2015, of 9 July, of the National Civil Protection System, and Royal Decree 307/2005, of 18 March, which regulates subsidies in response to certain needs arising from an emergency or catastrophic nature and establishes the procedure for granting them. It has also agreed to request that the Council of Ministers adopt the appropriate complementary measures to help in the full recovery of the damage suffered in the municipalities of des Mercadal and Alaior.

This agreement will be communicated to the State Government through the Insular Directorate of the General State Administration in Menorca.

The session was attended by the mayors of the two affected municipalities.
