This action improves the connectivity of the Sant Francesc neighbourhood with the city centre and will revitalise the area.
In addition, a public open space of approximately 300 m2 with a garden area and rest areas has been created.

The Inca City Council has already opened the new road that connects Calle Om with Calle de na Ferrilla. The historic arch is now the gateway to a large public space and a single-platform street, which improves connectivity and pedestrian circulation between the Sant Francesc neighbourhood and the city centre.

The works to extend Carrer de Ferrilla de Inca have been completed

‘This action aims to revitalise the old town as an economic engine for the city. Sant Francesc is a historic neighbourhood of the city, forgotten for many years, and now, with this new public space and the removal of the wall in the market square, it is once again connected to the city centre and the shopping area,’ explains the mayor of Inca, Virgilio Moreno.

For his part, the town planning councillor, Andreu Caballero, stresses that ‘we are convinced that in this way we will contribute to the urban and heritage recovery of this neighbourhood. One of our main objectives is urban regeneration and renovation, while at the same time promoting the recovery of the old town. Therefore, this was a necessary step to begin a process of integration and improvement of the Sant Francesc neighbourhood’.

Thus, with this new road linking Na Ferrilla Street with Om Street, Inca Town Council has created a new public space for pedestrians, which allows direct access on foot from Sant Francesc to the Cobert Market square, boosting connectivity with the centre and the commercial area of the municipality.

To carry out this intervention, which has involved an investment of approximately 500,000 euros, the council previously had to expropriate and demolish some buildings, which were in poor condition, to gain the necessary space to create the square and the road. This action is part of the strategic plan promoted by the City Council to improve the town centre in urban terms and to promote and revitalise the old part of the city.
