The building, owned by the Consell de Mallorca, has been presented through the Directorate General of Housing and Architecture of the Govern de les Illes Balears to carry out a restoration project.

The Consell de Mallorca has collaborated with the Govern de les Illes Balears to present the Sindicat de Felanitx to the new edition of the Europan international architecture competition, a periodic European competition that seeks the exchange of ideas from architects under the age of 40 on sites that are selected in previous phases.

In this way, the island institution is looking for its building to be one of the sites chosen for a restoration project. The Govern’s Director General of Housing and Architecture, José Francisco Reynés, presented the proposal today at the Europan National Committee in Madrid, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Housing and the Urban Agenda. Once the first phase of the presentation of sites has begun, which will be selected in mid-October, the phase of presentation of architectural projects in the chosen locations will continue.

The Consell de Mallorca will be the collaborating body if the old cooperative winery is chosen, and will be responsible for commissioning the project to the winning architects. The Councillor for the Presidency, Antoni Fuster, explained that this initiative is ‘a unique opportunity for various European teams to present proposals to give a new life to the emblematic building’. Antoni Fuster pointed out that ‘no progress has been made on the building in recent years, and now the Consell is seeking to give a major boost to the recovery project’.

The Sindicat de Felanitx, which dates from 1919 and 1922, was declared an asset of cultural interest (BIC) with the category of monument in 2001. Subsequently, in 2019, the institution acquired the property, which is included in the list of the one hundred elements of Spain’s Industrial Heritage under the National Plan for Industrial Heritage.
