The event was attended by the director general of the Health Service, Javier Ureña; the director general of Health Research, Training and Accreditation, Vicenç Joan; the manager of Son Espases University Hospital, Cristina Granados; the Mental Health care coordinator, Antonio Zamora, and the head of studies of the Multidisciplinary Mental Health Teaching Unit, María Luz Pradana.

The residency training system for specialists ensures quality training, as the professionals are trained in the same system that they will later become part of. Thus, eight of the nine graduating professionals will become part of the Health Service on long-term contracts.

In 2010, the Ministry of Health accredited the Multidisciplinary Mental Health Teaching Unit to train specialists.

Over a period of four years the residents have achieved their competencies through a very demanding training programme in which they have rotated through various hospital and community facilities, enabling them to be trained in all aspects necessary to provide optimal care for people with mental health problems and their families.
