Five artistic groups will represent the Balearic Islands at Fira Mediterrània Manresa
The Government of the Balearic Islands, through the Directorate General of Culture, will participate with five artistic groups in the Mediterranean Fair of Manresa, the strategic marketplace for artistic proposals that use roots, traditions and popular culture as a creative engine. Mucha Muchacha and Los Voluble (who will star in the Fair’s opening act), Pitxorines, Anna Ferrer, Toni Masegosa, Andrea Cruz, and Aluca will put their Balearic stamp on the event with performances that encompass different artistic disciplines.
The Fira Mediterrània and the Govern de les Illes Balears have a collaboration agreement whereby the government assumes, depending on budget availability and the processing of the dossier, 100% of the travel expenses and 50% of the cost of the fee presented at the Fair for the companies, groups or artists selected to participate.
This multidisciplinary fair, which has been held annually since 1998, proposes three main itineraries in the programme: one of music, with the Mediterranean world music and folk music scene, where the novelties of the Catalan roots scene stand out; one of dance, with a moving look at traditional roots and popular culture, and one of memory, legacy and oral narration, with the proposals of performing and street arts, especially theatre and circus, which draw on popular culture.
This approach is made concrete with a programme made up of proposals based on traditional roots as the creative driving force, a root with a multi-faceted outlook that speaks to us in the present. At the same time, the professional market acts as a meeting and exchange space, becoming a point of contact and buying and selling for both the performing arts and music sectors.
The Fira Mediterrània is interdisciplinary in nature and brings together different artistic languages: visual arts, circus, dance, exhibitions, music, oral storytelling and theatre. The shows programmed are of different formats -small, medium or large-, indoor or street, and are aimed at both adult and family audiences.
