The Consell de Mallorca has for the first time created an initiative aimed at the emotional well-being of young people. The Councillor of the Presidency, Antoni Fuster, accompanied by the island’s Director of Youth, Carmen Ripoll, presented the programme ‘Mental Health in Youth’, a series of nine conferences that offers practical tools and strategies to the adults who accompany young people in their development: family members, teachers, professionals in the fields of health, sports and education, among others.

The Consell de Mallorca presents the programme ‘Mental Health in Youth’
Antoni Fuster explained that ‘previously, the Youth Department had never presented a direct proposal to deal with mental health’. Fuster added that ‘the idea is to create a space for reflection to debate the current problems faced by young people and thus learn how to listen, detect and act’. He also emphasised that ‘it is an opportunity to hear expert opinions that allow for quality accompaniment and the detection of risk situations’.
The forums will be held at the Official College of Doctors of the Balearic Islands by psychologists, psychiatrists, therapists and professionals from organisations such as Proyecto Hombre, Red Cross, Educaclown, Deixalles, ANAR Foundation, Balearic Institute for the Mental Health of Children and Adolescents (IBSMIA), Official College of Psychology of the Balearic Islands, Majorcan Institute of Social Affairs (IMAS), National Police, Civil Guard, Carbonell Institute and the company Energy.
The topics to be covered in the lectures are self-esteem, emotional intelligence, the importance of limits in education, substance abuse and other addictions, cybersecurity and social networks, bullying and cyberbullying, eating problems and image, unwanted loneliness and behavioural disorders in adolescents. In addition to the lecture, each conference will offer the possibility of exposing and sharing doubts among attendees.
The Consell de Mallorca has already opened the registration period for the first ‘Self-esteem’ conference, in which Educaclown, the Official College of Psychology of the Balearic Islands and the Carbonell Institute are collaborating. Up to 120 people will be able to register for each of the conferences completely free of charge on the form provided on the website of the Consell de Mallorca as the deadlines open.
