This call, endowed with 300,000 euros, includes grants ranging from 3,500 to 10,500 euros.

The Consell de Mallorca, through the Department of Economic Promotion and Local Development, has launched for the first time a 300,000-euro call for grants aimed at the island’s town councils to support projects on research into the commercialisation of local produce in the different municipalities.

The aim of this new initiative is to obtain information on the sales and consumption habits of local produce in each of the municipalities so that, once the data is obtained, the necessary initiatives can be promoted to encourage the consumption of Mallorcan produce.

The Consell de Mallorca launches a new line of grants to town councils for research projects aimed at promoting the consumption of local produce

The councillor for Economic Promotion and Local Development, Pilar Amate, pointed out that this call ‘is included in the Consell de Mallorca’s Strategic Plan of Subsidies and aims to promote local products, support the work of our local producers and, in turn, help the economic development of our island’.

He also explained that ‘the studies will affect the geographical scope of each municipality so that we will be able to obtain very useful and accurate information that will help us to determine the specific needs of each of our towns’.

Categories of the studies

The Consell de Mallorca leaves the methodology of the research projects in the hands of the town councils, although it has established some categories for the studies in order to determine the most widespread trends in the consumption habits and preferences of Mallorcans: fresh food, other food, daily non-food items (hygiene, drugstore), clothing and accessories, housing equipment, others (books, press, hardware, technology, travel…).

Likewise, the frequency of purchase, the place of purchase (inside or outside the municipality), timetable and consumption of ecological products and kilometre 0, among other aspects, will be analysed.

The amount of the call will be distributed among the local councils on the basis of population criteria and includes subsidies ranging from 3,500 to 10,500 euros. Thus, local entities with a larger population and, in short, with more shops with local products will receive a higher amount because they will need to analyse a greater number of data to be able to carry out the study.
