Culture and the Film Academy set up the Unit for the Prevention of and Attention to Gender Violence in the Audiovisual and Cultural Sector

The Unit for Prevention and Attention against Gender Violence in the Audiovisual and Cultural Sector begins to operate as a service of first attention for cases of gender violence that have occurred in the working environment of the audiovisual and cultural sector throughout the Spanish territory. It will attend to female workers in the audiovisual and cultural sector, in any of its departments or trades, who require information on the subject, who are experiencing or have experienced a situation of sexual violence, harassment or abuse, or gender-based discrimination. The Unit can also be contacted by people who have witnessed or know of a situation of gender-based violence in the course of their work in the audiovisual and cultural field to receive information on how to act in these cases.

The attention offered consists of information, guidance and initial psychological and legal attention, depending on the needs of each case. The service is professional and free of charge and does not require a prior complaint. Moreover, it is confidential. Thus, people go directly to qualified professionals and the Ministry of Culture and the Film Academy will never have access to their data.

How do I access the service?
To access the service, it is necessary to request an appointment by calling +34 651 684 584 from 10:00 to 14:00 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; and from 16:00 to 18:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The email address unidadviolenciasmachistas@fundacion-aspacia.org has also been set up for this purpose.

The service is managed by the ASPACIA Foundation, a feminist non-governmental organisation, whose aims are to prevent and eradicate all forms of gender-based violence against women, especially sexual violence, from a feminist perspective and with a gender, human rights and intersectional approach.

Training, information and awareness-raising
As part of the measures for prevention and action against male violence, the Unit will hold an awareness-raising and information session to detect situations of violence and to learn how this new service works. During the month of October, a pilot test will be carried out at the Film Academy and, subsequently, different sessions will be held both in person and online in different entities throughout Spain.
