During the month of September, the coastal cleaning service of the Regional Ministry of the Sea and Water Cycle removed a total of 4,905.78 kilos of waste from the coasts of the Balearic Islands, with a daily average of 163.53 kilos. Mallorca has led the collection with 2,396.15 kilos (79.87 kilos per day), followed by Menorca with 1,095.65 kilos (36.52 kilos per day), Ibiza with 1,005.55 kilos (33.52 kilos per day) and Formentera with 408.43 kilos (13.61 kilos per day).

The Coastal Prevention and Maritime Cleaning Service collected nearly 5 tonnes of waste in September
The campaign has continued to make use of beach-type vessels, destined for shallow waters, and coastal-type vessels, which operate in more remote areas. In total, the beach boats collected 2,739.98 kilos (91.33 kilos per day), while the coastal boats collected 2,165.80 (72.19 kilos per day).
During this period, little presence of jellyfish has been observed in the bathing areas, with no record of Portuguese carabela. As far as waste is concerned, plastic has been the most common, representing 48.78% of the total, followed by wood with 27.88%. In addition, there have been exceptional collections of plastic, trunks, pipes and pieces of boat. The Regional Ministry has dealt with three warnings, two of which have been dealt with jointly with the 112 emergency service and Maritime Rescue, while another has been reported by institutions and individuals.
This month marks the end of the 2024 campaign, which has been active from 1 May to 30 September, with daily operations from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., ensuring the maintenance and conservation of the coasts of the archipelago during the busiest season.
