The Directorate General for Emergencies and the Interior (DGEI) has carried out two exercises to put different emergency protocols into practice and improve coordination in crises.

The Directorate General for Emergencies and the Interior today carried out two simulations to put into practice various protocols for action in different emergencies. The first exercise took place in the port of Cala Figuera, in Santanyí, focusing on the fight against marine pollution and the activation of port self-protection plans. This simulation involved the participation of personnel from the Directorate General, as well as members of Ports of the Balearic Islands and the Santanyí Civil Protection Volunteers’ Group, who collaborated in testing the placement and removal of protective barriers, with special attention to the safety of those involved and respect for the environment, as well as promoting collaboration with other organisations.

The second exercise, with very different characteristics, was carried out at Ibiza airport and consisted of a simulation of an aircraft splashdown in a difficult access area. This exercise, which was attended by the Director General of Emergencies and the Interior, Pablo Gárriz, was aimed at testing the protocols established for crisis management in an airport environment, with the main objective of practising coordination to evaluate the capacity for collaboration between different emergency agencies and services, as well as to analyse the effectiveness of the responses in order to improve procedures in the event of possible incidents of this type. In addition to the DGEI and SEIB112 personnel, the exercise also involved resources from the airport, the Central Government Delegation, the Fire Department, Maritime Rescue and SAR.

Both exercises are part of the continued commitment of the Directorate General for Emergencies and the Interior to guarantee a rapid, coordinated and effective response in emergency situations, both in maritime areas and in critical infrastructures such as airports.
