Next year, the limitation of access from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. will be extended by one month compared to this year, a measure also proposed by the load study.

The Consell de Mallorca brought together the administrations responsible for restricting access to Formentor to analyse the operation of the limitations in 2024 and set those for 2025. At a meeting at the Consell de Mallorca’s headquarters in the Llar de la Infància, it was decided to extend the restrictions on vehicle access for October. Until now, it was forbidden to drive along the Formentor road from the 1st of June to the 30th of September, and next year it will be until the 30th of October, with the same timetable from 10 am to 10 pm. Access will only be possible by public transport, on foot or by bicycle.

The Consell de Mallorca and the competent administrations extend the vehicle restrictions on access to Formentor from 1 June to 30 October at the request of the Pollença Town Hall

The reasons for the decision to extend the restrictions until the end of October, as explained by the Consell de Mallorca’s director of Infrastructures, Rafel Gelabert, are the express request of the Pollença Town Hall and the fact that the load study presented last week by the Consell de Mallorca proposes it.

The different administrations involved in the restriction that took part in the meeting, in addition to the Consell de Mallorca, are Govern de les Illes Balears, Consorci de Transports de Mallorca, Dirección General de Tráfico, Agrupación de la Guardia Civil, Autoridad Portuaria and Ayuntamiento de Pollença. The Government has guaranteed the shuttle bus service during October for people who wish to visit Formentor.
Two levels of restriction have been established where only authorised vehicles, public transport, emergency services and bicycles may circulate. The first level begins at Port de Pollença and extends to Formentor beach. The second is from Formentor Beach to the lighthouse. Likewise, it has been decided to implement new technologies to monitor and see in real-time the capacity of the Formentor area.
During 2024 a total of 1,175 fines were issued to vehicles that disregarded the restrictions and entered Formentor during the forbidden hours without being authorised to do so. It should be remembered that the Consell de Mallorca is responsible for providing the area with informers to communicate the restrictions to drivers. Penalties are applied by the Directorate General of Traffic as the competent body for traffic regulation.
