Mallorca’s opera is promoted on the London Eye
In one of the iconic capsules of the London Eye, the Consell de Mallorca presented the excellent opera programme of the Teatre Principal de Palma, intending to capture the interest of the British public and invite them to enjoy Mallorcan culture in a unique historical setting. This season, the Teatre Principal is offering top-level productions such as Puccini’s Turandot, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and Gaetano Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, as well as a traditional Easter concert.
The delegation from Mallorca was headed by the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, and included the councillor of Tourism, José Marcial Rodríguez; the island’s director of Tourism, Susanna Sciacovelli, and the director of the Teatre Principal, Miquel Martorell.
The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, explained that ‘the public hall is an emblematic institution with more than 400 years of history, which is a point of reference for the performing arts in Mallorca’. He also detailed that ‘the building is also a heritage attraction, as it is a unique piece of architecture: its neoclassical façade with sculptural decoration stands out, combined with a neo-baroque interior and an emblematic stage and ceiling’. The Consell de Mallorca has distributed promotional material promoting the Teatre Principal building on the London Eye, a very busy place.
The president stressed that Mallorca is much more than a summer destination: ‘We have a first-class cultural offer, ideal for tourism that respects the natural and social environment, which seeks authentic cultural experiences throughout the year,’ he said.
The director of the Teatre Principal, Miquel Martorell, added that the public theatre has its own productions that are available to other theatres and festivals, such as the operas L’elisir d’amore; La serva padrona; Don Giovanni; L’Orfeo; Il Trittico or the recently premiered Turandot, which has been a great success with audiences and critics.
A musical performance to match
The event at the London Eye included an exclusive musical performance by three Mallorcan talents: soprano Marga Cloquell, violinist Pau Cladera and cellist Joan Fiol. These young artists performed Oh mio babbino caro by Puccini; Cantares by Turina and La Balanguera, the anthem of Mallorca. The three musicians offered the audience a small sample of the musical and cultural wealth to be found on the island. This action reaffirms the Consell de Mallorca’s commitment to sustainable, quality tourism.
This is a co-marketing action with Lastminute, carried out in order to have an impact on the epicentre of one of the main outbound tourism markets for the island. The Fundació Mallorca Turisme has thus sought to raise awareness and disseminate the cultural aspect of the island, while at the same time highlighting the importance of being responsible and committed to the future of the destination chosen to enjoy your holidays.
This action has been carried out in collaboration with the OTA Lastminute and includes the use of the London Eye and its different supports to inform the thousands of visitors who enjoy this attraction that Mallorca is a destination 365 days a year with a great cultural offer.
