The 020 phone number starts to operate to facilitate access to the Minimum Living Income

It is free, nationwide, and allows citizens to request information on the benefit, receive guidance on how to use the electronic services, find out the status of their file or find out the requirements for the child support supplement, among many other queries. In its first days of operation, around 30% of the information calls about IMV have already been received through this new number. Between the two numbers, 40,000 calls have been received in three days.

As the Minister of Inclusion Elma Saiz explained, ‘the new telephone number comes at a very important moment, as it is another tool available to those affected by the DANA who may need information about the Minimum Vital Income’.

In the 78 municipalities particularly affected by the DANA, 23,000 households are benefiting from the Minimum Vital Income in which some 70,000 people live. ‘The next benefit paid to them, which corresponds to November and which will be paid at the end of this month, will come with a 15% supplement to what they have been receiving’, explained Elma Saiz. ‘The beneficiaries don’t have to do anything, it will be done automatically. For the moment, it will be for three months and will also benefit those people who have already applied for the Minimum Living Income, even if they have not received a reply, and those who apply until 31 December, if they meet the requirements. It is a measure that forms part of the social shield that we have approved to promote the recovery of the areas affected by the DANA’.

020 phone number

‘All the priority causes for this Government, especially the social ones, have a short telephone number; and the fight against poverty and exclusion is essential for this Ministry’, stressed Minister Elma Saiz. ‘The 020 number is easy to remember and brings us closer to the people entitled to the benefit more quickly and simply’.

The 020 telephone number will coexist with the 900 20 22 22 number, whose staff has been reinforced this year by 43% to improve the efficiency of the service. So far this year it has already dealt with more than 450,000 queries about the IMV, and in the first three days of 020’s operation, it has received nearly 40,000 queries. “For the ministry it is essential to have statistics on calls and services because it allows us to know the needs and demands of citizens and, after analysing them, act by those needs,” the minister added.

Work is already underway to implement accessibility systems for people with disabilities, especially for the hearing impaired, as is the case with the 016 telephone number, which deals with all forms of violence against women.

Accessibility Plan

This initiative is part of the Ministry’s Integral Accessibility Plan, a new roadmap for 2024 based on three pillars: streamlining processes, proximity and accessibility, and transparency.

On 16 October, the new Social Security website was launched, which incorporates all the telematic access channels for carrying out procedures and consulting information and services on pensions and benefits. It is designed to adapt to any device. The IMV application has been developed in mobile format, as this is the most common way for citizens to apply for benefits. It is a further step in the strategy of putting the citizen at the centre, bringing services closer and making them more accessible.

The Inclusion section of the Ministry’s portal has also been modified, with the drafting of simpler texts to explain what the Minimum Living Income and the Child Support Supplement consist of, to illustrate it with examples for different household compositions, or to enable a section for frequently asked questions. Work is also being done to adapt the Minimum Vital Income pages to the easy reading system.

In addition, since February, monthly MVI statistics broken down by province and type of household have been published, reflecting the Government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
