A total of 11,790 pupils will receive canteen and food subsidies in the 2024-2025 school year
As for the canteen subsidies, which are aimed at primary school pupils, a total of 11,565 applications have been accepted out of the 17,055 submitted. A total of 225 applications out of the 281 submitted were accepted for the food subsidies for secondary school students.
Following the awarding of grants, the 9,500,000 euros for canteen grants and 500,000 euros for food have not been used up, so the Regional Ministry of Education and Universities will study the possibility of modifying the requirements of the call for applications for the next academic year and/or increasing the allocation in each tranche in future calls for applications. In addition, the remaining funds have been increased by 300,000 euros for social emergency school funds, intended to address situations of supervening social needs in terms of food and other educational needs for students in public schools in the Balearic Islands.
The canteen subsidies will be applied on the basis of the maximum daily price approved this year by the Government of the Balearic Islands, which is 6.85 euros for permanent users of the service and 7.55 euros for temporary users in public schools in the Balearic Islands. This has made it possible to equalise the cost of school meals for the most vulnerable families who are beneficiaries of canteen grants.
