Violinist Gidon Kremer stars in the OSIB’s second subscription concert

V. Kissine’s Violin Concerto will open the event. A work of classical structure with contemporary touches. The Symphony will be joined by Gidon Kremer, violinist, artistic director and founder of Kremerata Baltica. He has an international reputation as one of the most original and captivating artists of his generation. His repertoire ranges from standard classical scores to the music of leading 20th and 21st-century composers. He has patronised the work of Russian and Eastern European composers, performing many outstanding new compositions, which have often been expressly dedicated to him.

After the break, the Orquesta Sinfónica Illes Balears will perform Iberia by Albéniz. One of the Spanish composer’s most emblematic works. Composed between 1905 and 1908, this suite for piano consists of twelve pieces organised in four notebooks. Each of the pieces in Iberia evokes the folklore, traditions and landscapes of different regions of Spain, from the luminosity of Andalusia to the intensity of Aragon. In this case, the following pieces will be performed: Evocación, Puerto, El Corpus en Sevilla and Triana.
The concert will end with Turina’s Danzas fantásticas. Composed in 1919 and inspired by the love, culture and traditions of his homeland, Andalusia. Structured in three movements, harmonies, rhythms and staircases typical of flamenco and other traditional dances can be appreciated.
