The vice-president of the Council of Mallorca and councillor of Culture and Heritage, Antònia Roca, wanted to highlight the importance of these awards and announced the members of this year’s jury: ‘We want to recognise the commitment, creativity and sustainability of the artisan sector, as well as its contribution to the culture and identity of Mallorca. This year, the commitment to a top-level jury reinforces the prestige of these awards, which promote continuity and innovation in the sector.

The Mallorca Crafts Awards 2024 will have two specialised juries to guarantee fairness and specialisation in the selection of the winners: a generic jury and a gastronomy jury. As for the first one, it is worth highlighting the presence of the director of the Es Baluard Museum, David Barro; the director of the Balearic Islands School of Design, Miquel Oliver; the master craftsman miller and winner of the Mallorca Crafts Award 2023, Miquel Ramis; the master craftsman seal maker Gregorio Vizcaino; the master craftswoman jeweller Nina Schinneck; master craftswoman figurist and siurellera Francisca Truyol and the technician of the Regional Development Agency of the Balearic Islands, Cristina Santandreu.

This jury will be responsible for assessing most of the categories: the Mallorca Crafts Prize, the Crafts Tradition Prize, the Crafts Design and Innovation Prize, the Crafts Promotion Prize, the Crafts Fashion Prize, and the Impulse Prize. As for the gastronomy jury, which will be responsible for specifically assessing the Artisan Gastronomy Award, it is made up of prominent members of the local sector and the artisan product. The members are the president of the Forners and Pastissers Association of the Balearic Islands, Pep Magraner; the master artisan chef and president of the Association of Established Cooks in the Balearic Islands, Koldo Royo; the artisan herbalist and winner of the Artisan Food Award 2022, Patricia Gonzalez, and the general director of Agro Quality, Patricia Gonzalez and Joan Llabrés, Director General of Agri-food Quality and Local Products of the Government of the Balearic Islands.

In this way, with the involvement of these experts, the Consell de Mallorca continues to work to give prestige and visibility to the island’s crafts, thus ensuring the prominence and projection of a sector that is fundamental to Mallorcan culture.
