The Consell de Mallorca vindicates the fight to eliminate violence against women by hanging a banner on the occasion of the 25N

The president stressed that ‘this fight challenges us all and requires firmness, determination and action’ and stressed the commitment of the island’s institution, reflected in the budgets of the department responsible for the areas of families, equality and the fight against gender violence. Galmés insisted on the importance of ‘reinforcing prevention initiatives and improving support and care services for victims’. In this regard, she mentioned the setting up of the first crisis centre for victims of sexual violence in Mallorca, ‘a space.

She also emphasised the need to make the impact on minors visible, stressing that ‘the children of women who suffer gender violence are often forgotten victims’.

For her part, the island’s director, Ana Ferriol, read the institutional manifesto in collaboration with IB-Dona, and stressed ‘the need to be demanding and not lose heart in this joint work, with the commitment to continue advancing’. The text stresses that ‘as long as there is only one victim, the necessary resources will be allocated to guarantee the care and accompaniment of women and their children’. It also calls for unity to eradicate gender violence, ‘a universal challenge that will only be achieved through collective effort’.

Increase in the budget for families, equality and the fight against gender-based violence

The budget of the Island Directorate for Families for 2025 increases by 28.8% over the previous year, reaching 6,782,900.00 euros. This increase reinforces the policies of equality, diversity and fight against male violence of the Consell de Mallorca. Among the most important items, the amount allocated to the ‘No i punt!’ programme has increased to 630,000 euros, thanks to the increase in the number of municipalities committed to this prevention initiative.

On the other hand, the resources allocated to the programme of care for victims of violence have increased from 1,889,701.41 euros to 4,400,000 euros, earmarked for the management of the new 24-hour care centre for women victims of sexual violence, which will open this year, and for the expansion of the services of the Casa Violeta (Violet House).

In addition, 23,000 euros have been allocated for the rental of new flats and 6,000 euros for leisure activities aimed at women sheltered in Ariadna and their children. 345,000, with a new line of aid for entities that work with women in prostitution, especially in the Part Forana region.

With this budget increase, the Consell reinforces its commitment to social policies, making progress in the fight against gender violence and in the promotion of equality and support for families.

Cultural activities and workshops to promote equality

The island institution has organised the round table ‘Dones que cuiden dones’ (Women caring for gifts), tomorrow at 6 p.m. at CaixaForum Palma, with the participation of five professionals who provide care and protection to women in vulnerable situations, as part of the activities for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

On the other hand, the institution has made available to the municipalities a series of cultural activities and workshops on the occasion of 25N, with the aim of raising awareness and promoting equality in all segments of the population, from the youngest to the oldest.
On 25th November a ceremony will be held in Raixa in memory of the victims of male violence. During the ceremony, homage will be paid to the women murdered in Mallorca, with the reading of their names, a minute’s silence and a floral tribute.
