The citizens of the Balearic Islands have contributed more than 500 proposals to the Pact for Sustainability
The environment, transport and sustainable tourism are the topics that have received the most contributions, with 42% of the total. Specifically, the citizens of the Balearic Islands presented 96 proposals on environmental sustainability, 84 on land transport and 63 on sustainable tourism demand.
Natural resources (61), social sustainability (58) and tourism strategy (55) make up the second largest block of contributions received over the four months that the website has been operational, allowing Balearic society to actively participate in this process of transforming the current model.
Likewise, 39 proposals have been registered on air and port transport, 34 on tourism competitiveness and 33 related to tourism services and infrastructures. Finally, 19 proposals have been submitted on qualification, training and social welfare, while innovation and digitalisation, as well as cultural heritage, have registered 17 contributions each.
The process of receiving material was opened on 1 July this year and ended on 1 December. In these four months, 590 people registered (who could act either in their capacity or on behalf of an association or collective) and 576 contributions were made, ranging from reports or statistics to proposals or projects.
Once all these contributions have been received, the 12 working groups of the Pact for Sustainability have begun the analysis phase so that they can be included in the strategic guidelines and lines of action that will be defined in the coming months. The aim is to shape the transition agenda towards the economic, social, and environmental sustainability of the Balearic Islands.
The Social and Political Pact for the Economic, Social and Environmental Sustainability of the Balearic Islands was constituted on 22 May and involves representatives of the economic sectors, universities, local administrations, political parties and civil society organisations.
The aim is to promote generating sound knowledge that has practical implications for public and private decision-making.
The final result of the work carried out by the different groups will lead, in a second phase, to a set of strategic guidelines and lines of action which, with the contributions of the other groups, will form the transition agenda towards economic, social and environmental sustainability in the Balearic Islands.
