The IBAVI foresees around 70 subsidised housing units in the first phase on three plots of land ceded by the Ciutadella Town Hall
On the one hand, the IBAVI and the Town Council are working on a new development on a plot of land owned by the town council, with the capacity to build up to 160 homes, in several phases, in which a first phase of 60 homes is planned (35 public housing units and another 25 for public employees).
On the other hand, the City Council will cede two smaller plots on which the construction of 6 and 3 more dwellings is foreseen.
About the first plot, located in the area of Dalt sa Quintana, of more than 11,300 m², the IBAVI and the Town Hall are continuing with the work begun a few months ago, with the plan to act in several phases. In the first phase, the construction of 35 public housing units is planned, and in addition, as proposed by the Town Hall, a further 25 housing units will be added to this first phase, which will be preferentially destined for public workers.
In addition, the Government and the Town Council have confirmed the willingness of the IBAVI to start new actions on two other municipal plots, as proposed by the Town Council. These are two smaller plots, in the Eixample area, with an initial plan to build 6 and 3 social housing units.
The first plot, measuring 179 m², is located at Carrer Mallorca and Passeig del Sindicat, and the second, measuring 110 m², is located at Carrer Creu, 38, and is initially proposed for the construction of 3 dwellings. The meeting was also attended by the director general of Housing and Architecture, José Francisco Reynés; the manager of IBAVI, Roberto Cayuela; and councillors from various political groups.
The councillor José Luis Mateo and the mayor of Ciutadella, Llorenç Ferrer, have pledged to work together to sign the collaboration agreements between the IBAVI and the Town Hall for the transfer of the three plots of land and to process the projects as soon as possible.
Mateo also stressed that these are the first public housing developments in Ciutadella in more than 16 years, in a municipality where the IBAVI has 45 subsidised housing units in three developments, and stressed the Government’s commitment to continue promoting new IBAVI housing developments, along with the rest of the Government’s measures and programmes to generate more affordable housing on the islands.
