The President of the Government has held an audience with Pope Francis at the Holy See
Prohens has invited the Pope to the Balearic Islands to visit the relics of Saint Alonso Rodríguez – to whom he is deeply devoted – as he did in 1983, long before he was elected Pope.
The President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Margalida Prohens, has held an audience with Pope Francis at the Holy See. Prohens conveyed to him the affection and challenges of the Balearic Islands, as well as discussing issues such as the importance of the family, the protection of the birth rate and the need to reinforce the values of Christian humanism and Catholicism in society.

They also spoke about the process of canonisation of Blessed Ramon Llull, a figure of great historical transcendence in the Mediterranean and, as a philosopher, a key author of Christian thought and faith, he said.
In 1995, the Bishopric of Mallorca, with Monsignor Teodor Úbeda at the helm, promoted the canonisation of Ramon Llull, and in 1999 the process was initiated at the Holy See. Now, 25 years later, the process has still not been completed, although the Bishopric of Mallorca has continued to work on it.
‘Of course, the Pope is perfectly aware of the figure of Ramon Llull and agrees that the Blessed meets the conditions to be canonised by the Holy See’, said the president.
The president also had the opportunity to talk about other saints of ours, such as Saint Catalina Tomás, Saint Juníper Serra and Saint Alonso Rodríguez, with whom Pope Francis has a special connection due to his status as a Jesuit. ‘For this reason, I have invited him to the Balearic Islands to visit their relics. He already visited them in 1983, long before he became pope’, she added.
At the meeting, the President presented Pope Francis with the Llibre de Maravelles of Blessed Ramon Llull and the Natalis Bible, republished by the Serra Group.
The President of the Government expressed her gratitude for the enriching, relaxed and close meeting with the Pope, and also expressed her gratitude to the Spanish ambassador to the Holy See, Isabel Celaá, who accompanied her.
