President Galmés, in the framework of the FIM Awards 2024 held in Palma, recognised the sporting careers of the riders who ‘have turned Mallorca into a land of champions’.
The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, paid tribute to the Mallorcan motorcycling riders, some of them champions in various disciplines, in an event held in the Fan Zone set up in Palma’s Parc de la Mar. This initiative is part of the celebration of the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) Awards Gala and its Annual Assembly, with more than 100 countries represented, which are taking place during these days in Mallorca.

The Consell de Mallorca pays tribute to the Mallorcan motorcycling world championship riders
President Galmés, accompanied by the island’s Director of Tourism for Governance and Sustainability, Pedro Mas, and the President of the FIM, Jorge Viegas, presented the siurells to the riders: David Salom, World Superbike champion, EVO category; Pakita Ruiz, five times Spanish champion and rider of the women’s world speed championship; Miquel Pons, rider of the MOTOe world championship; Pedro Vallcaneras, 24-hour endurance world champion; Marc Vich, R3 Yamaha world champion; Jaume Mariano, the first winner of the European Speed Championship and participant of the 125 cc World Championship; Marco Tapia, European Stock 600 champion; and Lluís Salom, MOTO2 World Championship rider, recognised posthumously, whose parents have received the recognition.
The president of the Consell de Mallorca stated that ‘today we pay tribute to some real heroes of Mallorcan sport: people who have made the name of Mallorca fly high all over the world. Pilots, references for many generations, who have been able to overcome obstacles, overcome adversity and have always fought until the last lap. The history of Mallorcan sport is written with their names and, with their victories, they have turned Mallorca into a land of motorcycling champions’.
FIM Awards Ceremony
Today will conclude with the gala dinner and ceremony of the FIM Awards at the Palacio de Congresos de Palma, at 10 pm, which will be attended by the President of the Consell de Mallorca and the President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, among other authorities. During the event, the 2024 world champions in disciplines such as enduro, speedway, flat track, motocross, trial, cross country and speed will be awarded.
President Galmés stressed the importance of the event, which has made Mallorca the epicentre of world motorcycling these days, assuring that ‘it is a source of pride for our island to host the end-of-season party of world motorcycling. Mallorca has a long and passionate motorcycling tradition, and this recognition consolidates our commitment to elite sport and reinforces the image of our island as a responsible, quality tourist destination’.
