The Consell de Mallorca increases by 61% the budget for revitalising local commerce and by 43% the budget for promoting local products by 2025
This 3.1-million-euro budget, which will be managed entirely by the Island Directorate of Economic Promotion and Product of Mallorca, will be allocated to various actions aimed at consolidating local produce as a quality product, which will be materialised in three strategic projects: the registration of the Product of Mallorca quality brand, an increase in subsidies for the dissemination of local produce, and, thirdly, the organisation of conferences and support for fairs and various events aimed at promoting local produce.
The councillor for Economic Promotion and Local Development, Pilar Amate, pointed out that ‘one of the measures to be highlighted in 2025 is the project to register the Mallorcan product brand, an identifying brand whose purpose is to guarantee the origin and quality of the product for consumers, as well as to give prestige and security to Mallorcan producers’.
On the other hand, within the Consell’s Strategic Subsidies Plan, the amount of subsidies earmarked for the promotion of local produce will be increased in order to reach all potential beneficiaries and to increase the visibility and recognition of the island’s produce. Thus, it will increase from 1.4 million euros in 2024 to 2 million euros in 2025 (+42.8%).
This budget for Economic Promotion also includes the organisation of a conference to recognise local produce by holding an event with awards for entities that have contributed to encouraging the consumption of local produce and promoting its image. In addition, the island’s participation in the various product fairs on Mallorca will be increased.
61% more earmarked for trade
On the other hand, the budget increase for the Island’s Department of Commerce is also noteworthy, rising by 61%, from 763,853 euros in 2024 to 1,231,000 euros in 2025.
The basic lines of action will focus on the census of commerce, for which work will be carried out on the creation of a register of commercial establishments in Mallorca, with the aim of gaining a better understanding of their evolution and giving them greater visibility. The ultimate aim of this new register will be to facilitate citizens’ access to reliable information on the situation of island commerce.
There will also be a campaign of subsidies to support small businesses in order to guarantee their survival, improve their competitiveness and encourage them to keep up to date.
Finally, support will be given to socially responsible entities through the organisation of awards to give visibility and recognition to those who carry out their professional activity under the premise of being socially responsible.
